AN OPEN LETTER TO MACKAY REGION CHURCHES:
The annual occasion of Mother’s Day is a wonderful moment in the church calendar to encourage mums about the important role they carry before our God and Father.
The apostle Paul speaks of the widow who, “is well known for her good deeds, such as bringing up children, showing hospitality, washing the feet of the Lord’s people, helping those in trouble and devoting herself to all kinds of good deeds”. Praise God for mothers!
However, it is worth acknowledging that many mothers in our community struggle to take on this role.
With abortion more and more readily available, mothers of all ages and family life stages are tempted to give up their children and to reject their God-given role of doing good works by bringing up children.
Oftentimes, fathers encourage or even pressure their partners to make this decision. Thanks be to God that there is forgiveness found in Jesus.
But wouldn’t it be wonderful if, through our church communities, especially in the lead-up to Mother’s Day, we could actively encourage and support mothers who are struggling to take on this precious but challenging responsibility? For this reason, Hope’s Dream Mackay is running its Love on Mums Day campaign. The idea is for local church families to shower love on mums by making a financial donation to support the work of Hope’s Dream.
As part of this campaign, we are selling hand-poured candles in two scents: Vanilla Caramel, rich and sweet, similar to a Peter Alexander candle; and Australian Bush, fresh, earthy and floral – a popular fragrance. These candles make a thoughtful gift for the mothers in your life, while also supporting a greater cause.
All proceeds go toward the running costs of Hope’s Dream, helping us continue to provide emotional and practical support for women facing unexpected pregnancies. Funds also help us raise awareness through advertising and move toward securing a permanent premises for the charity.
